Want to find out if this is right for your team?
Our first machine learning engineer apprenticeship cohort launched this year: 24 experienced developers from 23 different organisations, including early-stage startups, local authorities, FTSE 100 companies, and everything in between, funded through the apprenticeship levy.
Rethinking how we work takes structured space. Regular time to step back, experiment, and reflect, away from delivery pressure. That’s what this programme provides.
One afternoon a week, we come together to build machine learning systems. RAG architectures, voice agents, agentic workflows, production ML pipelines. 10 projects in 12 months, each one immediately applicable at work.
The weekly session is the only time away from the office. The remaining learning hours are self-directed and fit around a full-time role. Apprentices manage their own study schedule, so they can work around busy periods and team commitments.
The programme covers four areas: AI-accelerated software development, AI product engineering, deep learning and ML fundamentals, and ML systems and operations. The focus throughout is on building and deploying applications. The final assessment is a write-up of a real project from their own organisation, leading to a degree-level qualification.
Founders and Coders has trained software developers through peer-based learning since 2014. We use AI tools and techniques across everything we build, what we learn feeds directly into the curriculum, and we specialise exclusively on the machine learning engineer apprenticeship.
We are running free taster workshops. Each one is a hands-on, in-person session at our London campus, which gives a good feel of the programme. Sending team members along is a good way to see if the apprenticeship is right for them before committing. You can see the details of upcoming taster workshops below.
